Our Story

The Tayo Foundation was founded in memory of Tayeba Salimi, the late grandmother of Doctor Sarah Tayeba Saleemi. Tayeba spent her lifetime as a Sufi leader caring for families living in rural villages of Bangladesh. Her Sufi based community center has spent over 100 years housing people and paying school tuition for homeless children in the community by growing and selling farm crops. Tayeba’s dedication to charity, Sufi values, and love for people inspired Sarah and her husband, Quique to continue Tayeba’s mission in helping people and doing public good. Together, it is Sarah and Quique’s goal to help disenfranchised people with access to healthcare.

Dr. Sarah Saleemi MD, MPH graduated from Johns Hopkins Medical University with a Masters in Public Health. She completed her residency at University of Illinois - Chicago and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, and became Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Her experiences in health care extends from providing harm reduction services with music festivals and nightlife events, to working with homeless Veterans and impoverished communities, and recently working as a night hospitalist at a Wisconsin regional medical center.

Enrique, Quique Piña RN-BSN, M.Ed was an educator earlier in his career with a background in working with elementary public schools and education based Non-Profit Organizations while receiving his Masters of Education from Lesley University.
